Core Research Interests

As an environmental engineer and transportation researcher, his core expertise lies in emission inventory development, air quality assessment, and geospatial modelling. He applies advanced spatial data science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and comprehensive analytical methods to evaluate transport-sector emissions and track pollution dispersion patterns within complex urban environments.

Expanding Domain & Key Project Focuses

  • Spatial Allocation and Emission Disaggregation: A significant pillar of his research focuses on high-resolution spatial modelling for vehicular emissions. He has developed road density-based frameworks to precisely allocate traffic emissions and has extensively analysed how various allocation factors—such as population density and urban area—impact the spatial disaggregation of road traffic pollution. This work has been particularly instrumental in mapping emission hotspots across Megacity Delhi.
  • Urban Air Quality and Environmental Policy: His research heavily intersects with urban sustainability and climate policy. By quantifying traffic pollution and analysing the dispersion of heavy metals associated with vehicular sources, he provides the evidence-based insights essential for sustainable mobility planning. This deep expertise in environmental modelling is directly applied to broader climate initiatives in his current role as a Programme Associate at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).
  • Academic and Professional Integration: Anurag actively bridges the gap between academic research and actionable environmental solutions. Following his tenure as a Project Fellow at the AMRUT Centre of Urban Planning for Capacity Building at IIT Roorkee, he continues to advocate for targeted mitigation strategies to curb urban traffic pollution. He regularly shares his technical findings at global forums, including presenting on urban air quality challenges at the Transport and Pollution International Conference in Paris.
