About
Academic Background
Dr Chandra earned her Ph.D. in Engineering and her M.Tech in Transportation Engineering from the Academy of Scientific and Industrial Research (AcSIR) at CSIR-CRRI. Prior to this, she completed her B.Tech in Civil Engineering at the Cochin University of Science and Technology. Furthermore, she broadened her academic expertise through a Postdoctoral Research position at the EV Research Center, Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Davis.
Core Research Interests
Her foundational research revolves around travel demand modelling, mode choice analysis, and the evaluation of sustainable transportation systems. She focuses extensively on applying advanced analytical techniques, including artificial neural networks and neuro-fuzzy models, to understand commuter behaviour and transit accessibility.
Expanding Domain & Key Project Focuses
Global Electric Vehicle (EV) Transition and Infrastructure Expanding significantly into the global EV landscape, Dr Chandra researches EV demand forecasting, global supply chain impacts, and zero-emission vehicle equity. Her project portfolio includes modelling EV adoption across dozens of countries, developing software frameworks for the optimum placement of charging stations, and assessing automaker compliance with international emission standards.
Urban Mobility and Public Transport Integration Her domain extends into comprehensive urban mobility planning and public transit optimisation for major Indian cities. She has contributed to the development of sustainability integration indices for metro and bus networks, formulated trip generation manuals, and evaluated complex urban transit systems, including BRTS and feeder modes, to enhance overall transport accessibility.
Transport Policy and Environmental Sustainability Broadening her scope to environmental impacts and policy formulation, she investigates the effects of road rationing and socio-demographic factors on transport sustainability. Her applied research directly informs urban transport policies, traffic projection analyses, and national standards, evidenced by her role in the Bureau of Indian Standards committee for public bus transport services.
